Training scheme

Applicable scope and Effective time

 

This training scheme is applicable for students who enroll this MA program after September 2015. Effective from September 2015.

 

Study Duration and TuitionFee

This program is 2 years long (4 semesters) with beginning at September for all full-time students. Those who cannot graduate on time are required to submit an application a semester in advance for postponement which lasts no longer than 1 year.

Tuition fee for all full-time students is 17,000 RMB per semester without accommodation cost, and needs to be paid at the beginning of each semester. Students applied for the extension which is less than 1.5 year are supposed to pay the tuition of 17,000 RMB per semester. Students who fail in completing the program and drop out will only get the Graduated Certificate with no refund.

 

Cultivation mode

The students are managed by the combination of credit requirement and tutor supervision.Students should complete credit requirements in 2 years.Students will be supervised by their tutors. Students would determine their tutors in the first semester, and complete the thesis under the guidance of tutors.

 

Curriculum and credits requirement

Students could choose the basis courses according to their study field. All the curriculums are taught in English as shown in Table 1.

Credits requirement: 34 credits in total,in which 19 credits are compulsory, including 11credits for compulsory courses, 2 credits for practice activity, 6 credits for degree thesis; Other 15 credits are for optional courses.

 

Course study26 credits

Students should complete at least 26 credits of courses study in the first year.

 

Practice 2 credits

Professional practice is compulsory. Practice content would designated by the tutor and under the theme of environmental science and technology; both scientific research practice and social practice are available. Practice can start at any time but complete before the 4th semester. Practice time should be cumulative not less than 60 days. After the practice, students need to submit a report with 3000 English words, with the tutor or responsible officer’s practice examination.

 

 

Dissertation Proposal

After the completion of basic curriculums (scores of courses are more than 60 and complete 26 credits in the first year), students are supposed to submit a proposal presenting their planning for the thesis in September, the 3rd semester. The tutors will help the students to make sure their topics are reasonable and feasible. The proposal would be assessed by the Degree Evaluation Committee of school. The dissertation proposal could be postponed or retake under the permission of tutor and school by not later than November. Only the student who passes the assessment could continue for the dissertation research.

 

The Dissertation and Defense6 credits

The research work for dissertation should be no less than half a year. The dissertation should be written in Chinese or English with 20,000 – 50,000 words in total, attached with a 1000-3000 words summary in Chinese. The dissertation should demonstrate the ability of the students in scientific research or solving practical problems by using basic theory and professional knowledge.

After submitting the thesis, they have to take the oral defense. Dissertation defense is required to be held using English. Only after they pass their defense assessed by the degree committee can the students attained the master’s degree. If the students failed in the defense, they could apply to defend again under the regulation of Degree Committee. If the students have completed the credits but failed to graduate in the extension period, they could still apply for the completion as scholar students.
